A Tribute to Pastor Isaac Tolu Mogaji
I write this tribute with a heart filled with profound sadness yet immense gratitude for the extraordinary life of my dear uncle, Pastor Isaac Tolu Mogaji—lovingly known to us all as Uncle Tolu.
Uncle Tolu was not just an uncle to me; he was a father, a mentor, and a selfless example of what it means to serve God with everything you have. During my MSc days in the UK, Uncle Tolu became my rock, my guide, and my unwavering support system. He took me in with open arms, ensuring I was well cared for both physically and spiritually. He created an atmosphere where I felt loved, encouraged, and inspired to pursue God and my dreams.
I’ll never forget how he went out of his way to sponsor me to attend the CAC Central Choir rehearsals in London, all the way from my university in Hatfield. It wasn’t just about the financial sacrifice—though that alone spoke volumes—it was the way he believed in me, encouraged my passion for music, and ensured I could remain connected to the ministry that meant so much to me. Week after week, he made it possible for me to be a part of something bigger, instilling in me the values of dedication and excellence in serving God.
That period also coincided with the birth of CAC Narrow Gate Assemblies in London, a vision Uncle Tolu carried in his heart with an unshakable passion. I had the privilege of witnessing firsthand how he gave his all—his time, his resources, and his heart—to ensure the church not only stood but flourished. He poured himself into the work of God, laboring tirelessly to establish a house of worship where people could encounter the Lord and grow in faith. Uncle Tolu’s commitment to the ministry was nothing short of inspiring. He exemplified what it means to give sacrificially, to serve selflessly, and to trust God completely.
Known as “The Narrow Way Preacher,” Uncle Tolu was a man who not only proclaimed the truth but lived it. His message was clear, unwavering, and deeply rooted in the Word of God. He was uncompromising in his call for holiness and devotion, yet he carried a heart so full of love that it drew people closer to God. His life was the perfect blend of conviction and compassion—a testament to what it truly means to walk the narrow way.
But perhaps one of the most beautiful ways he served God was through his love for music. Uncle Tolu was not just a choir master; he was a father to the choir. He invested his time, his resources, and his heart into the music ministry, ensuring that the choir was not only excellent in performance but deeply connected to the heart of worship. He supported choir members financially, encouraged them when they were down, and led them with the kind of passion that only comes from a deep love for God.
I can still see him now—his face radiant, his hands lifted, his voice leading a room full of worshipers into God’s presence. Music was his way of connecting with heaven, and he taught everyone around him to approach worship with the same reverence and joy.
Uncle Tolu, your life was a masterclass in faith, sacrifice, and love. You taught me, not just through your words but through your actions, what it means to serve God with everything you have. You gave without holding back, you loved without limits, and you lived every day with the sole purpose of glorifying God.
As I reflect on your life, my heart aches at the thought of no longer having you here. But I take comfort in knowing that you are now with the One you loved so deeply, worshiping in the heavenly choir. I imagine you there, singing with all your heart, just as you always did here on earth.
